The young Actors Yamamoto Yusuke (21) and Seto Koji (21) attended on wednesday Fuji TVs "21th Young Script Award" ceremony, held in Tokyo. Both are starring in the Movie "Rain of Transmigration" after an original script by Sayaka Kuwamura (27). This work with a strong sociality about two brothers who are bound to each other and struggle in a hard reality with the absurdity of society and despair, received high praise from the judges, and was chosen as Grand Prize Winner from among 1450 applicants in total. Filming ended in the end of October and the broadcasting is scheduled for December on Fuji TV.

The Miyazaki Hayao anime feature "Gake no Ue no Ponyo" (Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea) has been shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. Along with the Hollywood CG adaptation of Tezuka Osamu's "Tetsuwan Atomu" (Astro Boy), it is among the record 20 feature-length animations announced by judges yesterday. The number will be whittled down, probably to five nominees, in February and the winners will be announced at the 82nd Academy Awards on March 7. The competition is strong this year and includes Disney's "Up," due for release in Japan in December as "Kaaru Jii-san no Sora Tobu Ie" (Grandpa Karl's Flying House), and "A Christmas Carol." But Miyazaki's anime has been a widespread critical success, and he won Japan's first ever animation Oscar with "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" (Spirited Away) in 2003.

Actress Kyoko Hasegawa, 31, graces the cover of fashion magazine anan’s issue out now and works her magic in a 6-page spread inside, marking her return to work following a year out with the birth of her first child.

Hasegawa married rock duo Porno Graffiti guitarist Haruichi Shindo, 35, in October last year and gave birth to a baby boy in May. Hasegawa gave a 2 1/2-hour interview with anan staff recently and spoke of her new bundle of joy and of married life. She said: “Since I got married, I’ve been making sure to say thank you for various things. I say it all the time now, and hear it often, too.”

A member of the staff at anan later praised Hasegawa on her impressive comeback, saying: “She’s even thinner than before her pregnancy. But her bust remains bigger, so her figure is just awesome now.”

This year's 18th issue of Kodansha' Bessatsu Friend magazine has announced on Friday that a television drama series based on Tomoko Hayakawa's The Wallflower (Yamato Nadeshiko Shichihenge) manga has been green-lit for a January premiere. The story follows four teenaged "pretty boys" who are invited to stay at a posh mansion, free of charge—provided they can transform the owner's standoffish, weird niece into a proper young lady. More details about the drama version will be published in future issues of Bessatsu Friend.

The manga has been running in Bessatsu Friend since 2000, and 24 compiled book volumes have been published so far. Del Rey will publish the 22nd volume in North America next January. The story has already been adapted into a 2006-2007 25-episode television anime series, which ADV Films released on DVD.
